Kingsville, Ontario-based Policella Farms has expanded its packing warehouse to 1,17 million cubic feet and completed a 200-kilowatt solar project.

The warehouse is Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point certified. It uses:

  • Recyclable, insulated and Energy Star-rated building panels;
  • LED lighting;
  • high-efficiency refrigeration; and
  • more than 1,000 solar panels feeding 20 invertors.

The changes are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 388,000 pounds annually, and oil use by 194 barrels according to a news release.

Policella Farms grows, packs and ships greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, seedless cucumbers and specialty products. It has facilities in Kingsville and Detroit.
