Potato producer takes to the open road

Courtesy Potandon Produce LLCThis customized trailer has just begun a two-year road trip to promote Potandon Klondike brand potatoes and products from Johnny’s Fine Foods. Follow its route at www.facebook.com/KlondikeBrands. Putting their potatoes and seasonings where their customers’ mouths are, Potandon Produce LLC and Johnny’s Fine Foods launched a two-year Midwest tour in early May that features a custom-built concession trailer disguised as a 1950s diner.

The trailer, which looks similar to a shiny Airstream camping trailer but sports neon lights and signs reminiscent of diners of past, is on a route of regional fairs, local festivals, corporate events and retailers’ sampling events, according to a news release from Potandon, Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Free samples of Potandon’s Klondike potatoes are the featured fare at the trailer’s walkup order windows, along with seasonings, marinades and dressings from Tacoma, Wash.-based Johnny’s Fine Foods.

Dubbed the Johnny’s Be Good Road Tour, the mobile marketing messenger embarked May 4 from the Truman Festival in Grandview, Mo., for its two-year tour.

Potandon’s marketing supervisor Barbara Keckler said in the news release the companies expect to make direct contact with thousands of consumers via the concession trailer. She said Potandon officials decided the best way to spread the word about Klondike Rose and Klondike Goldust brand potatoes was to have people taste them.

The Klondike fresh potatoes are cubed, roasted with the skins and flavored with Johnny’s seasonings. They received very positive responses from consumers when the concession trailer made a pre-tour trip through California, Arizona and Utah earlier this year, Keckler said in the release.

The route of Johnny’s Be Good Roar Tour is available at www.facebook.com/KlondikeBrands. Potandon has the exclusive marketing rights for Green Giant potatoes and onions.
