Potato social media campaign eyes industry

#TopTater recipe contestCourtesy U.S. Potato BoardA #TopTater social media hashtag campaign offers potato industry members a chance to win a three-night trip to Las Vegas in November during the World Food Championships.

The U.S. Potato Board plans to award three trips for effective uses of the hashtag on trade sites. To enter, links to social media properties using #TopTater should be e-mailed by Oct. 1 to Meredith Myers at meredithm@uspotatoes.com.

The prize includes round-trip airfare, hotel and a $50 per diem.

Winners will serve as cooking competition judges and #TopTater ambassadors, according to a news release.

The U.S. Potato Board will host the #TopTater Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas. The World Food Championships, which it’s partnering in, run Nov. 12-18. Competitors in the World Recipe Championship event will have to include potatoes in their recipes.

Possible uses for the hashtag include photos of retail displays, recipe shots, side dishes or potatoes on the grill.

The board in August also began promoting #TopTater to consumers who use the hashtag. They can enter recipes in the #TopTater contest on the board’s Potato Goodness Facebook page for a chance to win a trip to compete in Las Vegas.
