Potato stocks in the top 13 U.S. spud-producing states are up 7% from two years ago.

About 46.5 million cwt. had yet to be shipped as of June 1, up 7% from June 1, 2012, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

No report was issued in June 2013 because of federal budget sequester cuts.

Idaho accounted for about 20 million cwt. of the June potato stocks, Washington 12.5 million cwt., Minnesota and Oregon 3 million cwt. each, Colorado 2.4 million cwt., North Dakota 1.8 million cwt. and Wisconsin 1.3 million cwt.

About 12% of potatoes harvested in 2013 had yet to be shipped, down slightly from two years ago. Potato disappearance, at 344 cwt., was up 2% from June 2012. Shrink and loss rose 7% to 27.6 million cwt.
