Marking the start of the region’s potato harvesting, the Prince Edward Island Potato Board plans to participate in a number of regional festivals and events.
The events include the board sponsoring the PEI potato chowder competition at the Sept. 12-15 PEI Shellfish Festival in Charlottetown, according to a news release.
The board also plans to be involved in the Sept. 27 Fall Flavours Festival, the Sept. 29 Farm Day in the City in Charlottetown and the Oct. 19 Kids Spud Run.
The events commemorate the September and October harvesting season start.
“Potatoes are not only a major cog in Prince Edward Island’s economic engine, but are also a part of the Island’s cultural identity,” board officials said in the release. “The potato board is proud to be a sponsor of a number of high profile events that appeal to Islanders and visitors alike.”
