Produce for Kids launches retail campaignProduce for Kids is launching its annual campaign to encourage healthy eating.

The campaign is in its 12th year and projections are for it to hit the $5 million mark in total produce industry donations supporting children’s organizations, according to a news release.

On May 2, the Orlando, Fla.-based organization launched the “Get Healthy, Give Hope” campaign benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other children’s charities.

This year, 17 grocery store chains and 35 grower-shipper suppliers are participating.

The program plans to feature in-store signs and point-of-sale material in more than 2,500 retail stores in 30 states and the District of Columbia.

The campaign also plans to provide more than 150 produce-centered recipes and healthy tips provided by parents, according to the release.

“Produce for Kids is committed to educating families on the benefits of healthy eating and inspiring parents and children to create nutritious and delicious meals together,” John Shuman, Produce for Kids’ president and president of Shuman Produce Inc., Reidsville, Ga., said in the release. “For more than a decade, our organization has partnered with regional supermarkets and produce companies to provide much-needed funding for local children’s organizations. This is an important year for the program, as we expect to surpass the $5 million mark in total funds raised.”
