During its “Healthy Families, Helping Kids” fall campaign, the Orlando, Fla.-based organization worked with Acme Markets Inc., Malvern, Pa., Meijer Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Publix Super Markets Inc., Lakeland, Fla., and more than 20 fruit and vegetable suppliers.
The second yearly campaign generated funds for DonorsChoose.org, an online charity that helps school teachers and supports health and wellness classroom projects within participating retailers’ markets.
Public donations made to the site over the coming months match the retailers’ contributions, according to a news release.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the success of our Healthy Families, Helping Kids campaign to benefit local classroom projects in each of our participating retail partners’ local communities,” John Shuman, Produce for Kids’ president and president of Reidsville, Ga.-based Shuman Produce Inc., said in the release. “Together, we’ll be able to help support hundreds of classroom projects across the country and help students make healthier choices.”
The 2012 campaign raised more than $169,000 to support 652 classroom projects and the 2013 campaign is supporting even more classroom projects, according to the release.
