Coast Produce Co. of Los Angeles is one of several produce companies awarded significant U.S. Department of Defense contracts in May to supply fresh fruits and vegetables to commissaries, military bases and schools.
On May 3, Coast Produce Co., Los Angeles, was awarded a contact estimated at $75 million to provide fresh fruits and vegetables, live potted plants, and ornamental produce for resale at 36 commissary store locations in Defense Commissary Agency’s western area, according to a Department of Defense news release.
The two-year base contract will run from June 1 through May 31, 2015. The contract includes three one-year options that could extend the contract through May 31, 2018, according to the release.The Military Produce Group LLC, Norfolk, Va., was awarded a $52 million contract May 3 to provide fresh fruits and vegetables, live potted plants, and ornamental produce for resale at 42 commissary store locations in the Defense Commissary Agency’s eastern and central areas, according to the release. The base two-year contract begins June 1 and continues through May 31, 2015, with three one-year options available.
On May 13, AT Siravo Co., Cranston, R.I., was awarded a maximum $11.7 million contract by the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support to supply a full line of fresh fruit and vegetables to customers in New England. The contract will run through May 12, 2015, and customers will include all military service branches and U.S. Department of Agriculture school customers, according to the release.
