A long history in various sectors of the produce industry is the foundation that Craig Carlson is using for his consulting service, which he launched in early July.

“I’ve been thinking about working for myself for a long time and I finally decided now is the time,” said the former board member and 24-year member of the Produce Marketing Association. Carlson also served as president of the Eastern Produce Council and was a board member for the Produce for Better Health Foundation.
From October 2011 to June, Carlson was senior vice president/senior director of category management and sourcing for produce at US Foods, Rosemont, Ill. Prior to that he was Wal-Mart’s senior produce director for more than three years.
Carlson’s resume also includes stints as vice president for produce and floral merchandising for Pathmark Stores Inc., vice president for produce merchandising and operations at The Penn Traffic Co., and produce/bakery buyer and merchandiser for Supervalu’s Cub Foods division.
“I can help anyone in the industry who is looking to develop a strategic business plan in for the next three to five years,” Carlson said. “I have a broad target audience because of my background working with various aspects of the fresh produce supply chain.”
