Progressive Produce acquires asparagus business, sales manager

Cruz CarreraCarreraLos Angeles-based Progressive Produce has named Cruz Carrera sales manager for its asparagus department.

Carrera joins the company as a result of its October acquisition of Mission Produce’s asparagus business. He previously worked for Mission Asparagus LLC, a sales company of Oxnard, Calif.-based Mission Produce Inc.

“We had a plan to increase our acres every year in order to have a viable year round program in this commodity when we began,” Jim Leimkuhler, president of Progressive Produce, said in a news release. “The addition of Mission’s excellent growers along with Mr. Carrera’s five years of experience on the category will accelerate that plan.”

“Cruz has long experience and deep relationships in the asparagus world,” Progressive vice president of sales and owner Victor Rodarte said in the release.

Carrera joins a sales staff that Gary Meadows and Cory Stahl, plus general manager Don Hessel. He will work with Meadows and Stahl on key account sales of the Americas brand year-round asparagus program.

Carrera lives in Camarillo, Calif. Progressive Produce also has distribution and offices in Quincy, Wash., and Bakersfield, Calif.
