A consumer report of a piece of glass in a package of Publix Baby Bella Sliced Mushrooms spurred the retailer to recall an unknown number of packages of the mushrooms from all 1,077 of its stores.
Publix Super Markets, Lakeland, Fla., posted the recall notice April 24 on its website, but there is no record of the recall on the Food and Drug Administration’s recall Web page.
No injuries have been reported in relation to the mushrooms, according to the release. Calls to Publix for updated comments were not immediately returned.
“The Publix Baby Bella Sliced Mushrooms were distributed to all Publix retail locations in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina. The product is sold in the produce department in an 8-ounce package,” according to the company’s recall notice.
The mushroom packages have a Universal Product Code of 4141502286 and the lot code PHG 096.
Publix is privately owned and operated by its 167,000 employees, with 2013 sales of $28.9 billion. Currently Publix has 1,077 stores, according to its website.
