Pure Hothouse Foods Inc. has provided greenhouse-grown bell peppers to crew members of the International Space Station.
The peppers were part of a fresh food supply and other cargo on a flight launched Sept. 21 from Cape Canaveral, Fla., to the station. The load arrived Sept. 23 on Space X-4.
The Leamington, Ontario greenhouse grower-shipper produces vegetables marketed under the Pure Flavor label.
“We are honored to be part of this adventure to bring fresh vegetables to space,” Matthew Mastronardi, chief marketing officer at Pure Hothouse, said in a news release.
Earlier in the U.S. space program’s history, prepared meals for astronauts were available only in semi-liquid form.
