RPE Inc. has begun a partnership with Lodi, Calif.-based West Coast Vegetable Co. to grow, pack and market onions.
The deal follows another announced a month ago between Bancroft, Wis.-based RPE and Shelby, Ohio-based Onion Boy Inc. RPE plans to increase onion sales with customers through new packaging, category management and marketing plans, according to a news release.
West Coast Vegetable Co. offers a line of onions that includes Panoche sweet onions from June through December. Panoche was introduced in 1994 to compete with Georgia’s Vidalia onion program. Other offerings include sweet and mild and ruby red onions.
Besides the marketing agreement with West Coast Vegetable, RPE will co-own Tranquility, Calif.-based West Side Packing LLC. New packing arrangements are expected to make deliveries more efficient.
RPE grows and ships onions and potatoes year-round.
“This new partnership, along with our recent alliance with Onion Boy Inc., gives RPE an even greater variety and supply of quality onions for our customers,” Russell Wysocki, president of RPE, said in the release.
“RPE’s marketing strength will be an asset to West Coast Vegetable,” Michael Figone, chief financial officer, said in the release.
