As the first official campaign sponsor for Growing Forward with Feeding America, grower RPE Inc., Bancroft, Wis., is getting a jump on the 2015 drive with pre-Christmas potato donations every time a consumer enters a special code from Kwik Lok tags on RPE spud bags.
Playing off the Kwik Lok brand, the donation program is dubbed the “Lock Out Hunger” promotion, according to a news release. For every Kwik Lok tag code entered online, RPE will donate 10 pounds of Old Oak Farms brand potatoes, up to 40,000 pounds.
A special website for the promotion, www.OldOakFarms.com/GrowingForward, will launch soon, according to the news release, and will include additional details on the donation program.
RPE’s efforts are a prelude to the Growing forward with Feeding America campaign that was unveiled at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit in October. The year-round, cause marketing campaign was developed so the produce industry can help fight hunger by distributing more fruits and veggies to local Feeding America member food banks nationwide, according to the release.
“RPE Inc. has a long-standing history of working to fight hunger in our local community through product donation and employee volunteering, marketing manager Melissa Sylte said in the release.
“This campaign provides us a platform to effectively expand and promote our efforts to reach both retail customers and shoppers on a national level. Our ‘Lock Out Hunger’ promotion is a great example of how the (Growing Forward) campaign can create turnkey opportunities for brands like ours.”
