RPE, Bancroft, Wis., and Tasteful Selections are returning the generosity of Yolo County, Calif., with a 20,000-pound potato donation.
RPE and Tasteful Selections participated in Trucktoberfest in West Sacramento, Calif., last month. The event in Yolo County included food trucks and cooking competitions featuring Tasteful Selections’ potatoes. Although RPE planned to donate one pound of potatoes to the Yolo Food Bank for every pound sold at Trucktoberfest, the company increased that to 20,000 pounds.
“At RPE we love to give back to the community, and after hearing about Yolo County’s need to increase food security, we knew we needed to do more,” said Russell Wysocki, chief executive officer and president of RPE, in a news release. “We’re excited to help Yolo Food Bank bring the holidays to people throughout the county.”
Yolo County has a food insecurity level of 17%, making the holidays a rough time for people affected by hunger. The 20,000 pound donation of Idaho russet potatoes will arrive before Thanksgiving. The donation will also contribute to the food bank’s holiday distribution program, which delivers holiday meals to families in need during November, December and March. This program feeds around 15,000 Yolo County residents every year.
