Thousands of food lovers came to River Walk Park in Sacramento, Calif. to eat creations served from a caravan of food trucks.
The Oct. 5 event, dubbed Trucktoberfest, was organized by Sacramento Mobile Food for the second year in a row. RPE Inc. got in on the action by hosting the Tasteful Selections Trucktoberfest Showdown. In the competition, six food trucks prepared a dish featuring RPE’s specialty potato line — Tasteful Selections. The winning food truck team, Swabbies, presented an entree of purple potato gnocchi with fresh marinara sauce to the panel of judges. Swabbies received $1,000 in prize money.
A fan favorite was also selected based on the number of hashtags received on twitter. The crowd chosen MVP, or “most valuable potato”, was Slightly Skewed, which made fried potatoes, garnished with a sour cream and siracha ketchup sauce.
“Trucktoberfest is a fun way to reach out to our foodservice customers and consumers at the same time,” said Russell Wysocki, president and chief executive officer of RPE and co-owner of Tasteful Selections.
Tasteful Selections donated 20,000 pounds of potatoes for families in need to Yolo County, where the event was.
