Walter P. Rawl & Sons Inc. plans to host a summer camp for children in the Katie’s Krops program.
The nonprofit Katie’s Krops awards grants to youths who grow and donate vegetables to needy people in their communities. Those children will be invited to participate in the camp, according to a news release.
Walter P. Rawl & Sons plans to host the first camp July 16-18 at its Pelion, S.C., headquarters.
The camp gives children the opportunity to interact with their peers, learn about budgeting and meet founder Katie Stagliano, according to the release.
Walter P. Rawl & Sons contributed a percentage of sales of kale and collard green sales to the group and is helping fund 15 grants this year, according to the release.
“The first time I watched Katie speak, I knew I wanted to help her cause,” Ashley Rawl, director of sales and marketing, said in the release. “I started thinking of ways where we could help her empower other kids to do the same thing she is already doing. Katie’s Camp was born on that day and I am so pleased that we will be able to make it come to life.”
In 2008, the then 9-year-old Stagliano started the organization, which now sponsors 51 gardens in 22 states.
