Designed to provide an in-depth introduction to the produce industry and supply chain, the program was started with a $15,000 donation from Ready Pac Foods founder Dennis Gertmenian.

“There are so many talented people who want to grow within the produce business,” Gertmenian said in a news release. “The FPFC Apprentice Program allows them a chance to explore what makes the industry work and develop their career as a result. It is meaningful to me to provide the opportunity for the next generation to be a part of this incredible industry.”

The program is designed to educate and develop individuals through tours, seminars, panel discussions, cooperative projects, and exposure to the industry’s social and service network.

Among the La Mirada, Calif.-based FPFC’s service projects is partnering with the City of Hope, a cancer research hospital in Duarte, Calif.

Apprentice participants make a nine-month commitment to complete the program.
