(UPDATED COVERAGE, April 3) Ready Pac Foods Inc. has published a Fresh Salad Guide advising consumers on more than 20 different types of lettuce.

The eight-page guide is a free download that Ready Pac is publicizing through its website and its Facebook and Twitter accounts.

It depicts leafy greens in two categories: broad leaf lettuces and baby lettuces and greens. Besides lettuce varieties, the broad leaf segment includes escarole, endive, radicchio and cabbage. The baby group features spinach, chard, arugula and baby lettuces including lolla rosa and tango.

“It helps in educating consumers,” said Tristan Simpson, director of marketing and corporate communications at Irwindale, Calif.-based Ready Pac. “There really isn’t anything out there that does that from a comprehensive standpoint. There are so many unique varieties that all have different flavor profiles and combinations.”

The guide aims to ease shoppers’ selection process with pairing suggestions and other information, she said.

Four recipes illustrate pairing and use ideas, with a different Ready Pac salad mix. They are:

  • Gorgonzola, avocado and glazed walnut salad;
  • café bread salad;
  • California avocado fruit salad; and
  • Cabo shrimp salad.

“We wanted to offer up some of the more common blends and show how they can be used in recipes,” Simpson said.
