Ready Pac Foods Inc. is among the finalists for two awards at United Fresh 2013 – best new fruit product and best new packaging.
The company plans to introduce several products at the United Fresh Produce Association trade show May 14-16 in San Diego.
The fruit finalist is Ready Pac’s Bistro fruit salad, which comes in sweet tropical, caramel apple and Waldorf varieties. Fresh cut fruit, a dressing and dried fruit or a nut garnish are packed in recloseable single-serve bowls.
Fruit content varies but includes sliced red and green apples, pineapple, mango, grapes, dried cranberries or yogurt-covered raisins.
Irwindale, Calif.-based Ready Pac will also exhibit additions to its Bistro salad bowl lines, including apple bleu pecan and four organic varieties – cranberry walnut, chicken Caesar, Southwestern style and honey mustard baby spinach.
The new organic Bistro bowls are expected to start shipping the week of April 22, said Tristan Simpson, director of marketing and corporate communication.
“We’re seeing considerable growth within the organic packaged salad category which, during the latest 13 weeks, is up 20% in dollar sales (over last year),” Simpson said in a news release.
Ready Pac’s packaging award finalist is a peel and reseal clamshell film that cuts plastic use by about a third and creates space for another layer of product on pallets, according to the company.
