Rene Produce named Mexico’s exporter of the yearFor the second time, family-owned Rene Produce LLC has earned recognition from the Mexican government as exporter of the year.

Founder Rene Carrillo and his son Rene Carrillo Jr., company CEO, accepted the award from Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto in early September, according to a news release. The company has U.S. offices in Raleigh, N.C., and Nogales, Ariz.

The grower-shipper was first named Mexico’s exporter of the year in 2007. Rene Produce has been operating in Nogales for 50 years, according to the release. It is the exclusive marketing and distribution agent for its parent company and growing operations, Exportalizas Mexicanas S.A. de C.V., based in Culiacan, Mexico.

“My father and I humbly accept this prestigious recognition today for the many thousands of hard-working Rene Produce named Mexico’s exporter of the yearpeople who make it all possible,” Rene Carillo Jr. said in the release.

The award in the large agricultural exporter category recognizes achievement and leadership in social responsibilities, sustainability, farming and product innovation, job creation, food safety and safe logistics, according to the release.

Rene Produce’s products include, organic and greenhouse grown roma tomatoes, tomatoes on the vine, vine ripe tomatoes, bell peppers, long English cucumbers, slicing cucumbers and eggplant.
