Greener Fields Together, a sustainability and local produce program created by Pro*Act, has signed its first national restaurant operation to participate in its pursuit of comprehensive sustainability — Ted’s Montana Grill.

Ted’s Montana Grill, Atlanta, was co-founded by Ted Turner in 2002 and now has more than 40 locations nationwide. With its partnership with Greener Fields Together the chain and its owners, Turner and George McKerrow Jr., have reinforced a commitment to sustainability, according to a news release from the Monterey, Calif.-based organization.

In addition to requiring participating companies to adhere to good environmental practices, the Greener Fields Together organization promotes the use of local produce, according to its website,

“Ted’s Montana Grill’s commitment to sustainability is authentic. From stewardship to procurement they think about the environment and community with every decision made,” Pro*Act supply chain sustainability manager Kathleen Phillips said in the release.

McKerrow, chief executive officer for Ted’s, said by working with Pro*Act and Greener Fields Together the restaurant chain will have better access to locally grown produce at its various locations.

“It will enable us to move through the country in different growing cycles and to purchase local, sustainably grown, in-season vegetables through our local PRO*ACT distributors,” McKerrow said in the release.

“We’ll be able to reduce our impact on the roads by not hauling produce all over the country, and we’ll be spending more of our money within our local communities.”
