A company that builds greenhouses on supermarket roofs has received $4.3 million in financing from investors.
New York-based BrightFarms Inc. received the funding through a Series A equity financing round, according to a company news release. The additional money will be used to build more greenhouses and for customer service.
Investors include Emil Capital Partners and Ted Caplow, BrightFarms’s founder.
Produce harvested from a BrightFarms-built greenhouse is sold at the grocery store on which it is grown. BrightFarms owns the greenhouses, and retail partners are obligated to buy the produce.
