Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Supermarkets has a new way for shoppers to identify healthful products in-store.

The “health key” program rolled out Jan. 1 across all Roundy’s banners, with shelf tags labeling foods with healthful attributes.

“Customers encounter a sea change of package claims every day when they shop,” said Dana Schueller, senior marketing leader for Roundy’s, in a news release. “Health key evaluates all products against the same rules, allowing customers to be confident that they’re making consistent healthful choices throughout the store by following health key attributes.”

Propriety to Roundy’s, the program covers all departments except prepared and hot foods, said Schueller said.

“Roundy’s dietitians worked extensively to identify the attributes its customers needed clear and concise information on, in order to make healthy choices for themselves and their families,” Schueller said. “This work led to the 18 health key tags that provide information on products that pass the program’s strict filters, found in all Roundy’s stores.”

Health key tags include:

  • Calcium
  • Gluten Free
  • Good Source Fiber
  • Organic
  • Vegan
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
