Safeway and Buy-Low Foods in Canada are recalling fresh-cut Caesar salad products because of possible listeria contamination.

The quantity of potentially contaminated packaged salads is not included in the Feb. 25 recall notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Safeway and Buy-Low officials did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the salads, which are packaged under the brands Signature Café, Fresh ’n Delicious and Nester’s Own. Best before dates on the products are March 1 and Feb. 28.

The salads were distributed to Buy-Low and one of its banners, Nesters Market, in Alberta and British Columbia. Safeway and St. Martin’s Family Foods reecived the salads in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

“This recall was triggered by the company,” according to the recall notice. “The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled product from the marketplace.”

The recalled salads have a variety of universal product codes and are in several different sized packages. Details are included in the recall notice.
