Sakata Seed America Inc. has donated thousands of show plants to the Salinas Valley Fair in King City, Calif., to beautify the fairgrounds.
The 70th anniversary fair is scheduled for May 15-18. The plants were given after Sakata Seed’s California spring trials.
The company also donated its Centennial broccoli seed and two San Francisco 49ers football tickets to raise funds in a silent auction benefiting the Heritage Foundation.
The foundation supports the 4-H and Future Farmers of America programs; creates agricultural education opportunities; promotes public awareness; and backs Salinas Valley Fair facility projects.
“Salinas Valley is a hugely important growing region for Sakata and is also the home to one of Sakata’s research stations,” Matt Linder, senior manager for Sakata Vegetables, said in a news release. “We are very pleased to be able to support a community that represents many of our growers and seed distributors in the region.”
