Greens grower and processor San Miguel Produce took to the streets of Southern California cities Oct. 1 to mark National Kale Day with a kale giveaway.

Staff positioned at major intersections in Ventura and Los Angeles counties distributed more than 3,000 free bunches of kale during the morning commute hours.

The promotion was dubbed “Give ‘em kale.”

More than 30 staff at Oxnard, Calif.-based San Miguel Produce paired up at 11 sites in eight areas. They greeted commuters in downtown Los Angeles; Santa Monica; the Pacific Coast Highway; Malibu Canyon; Thousand Oaks; Camarillo; Oxnard; and Ventura.

The second annual National Kale Day, with events in New York and elsewhere, promoted the leafy green’s health benefits and culinary versatility.
