Butterkin SquashSeedWay LLC plans to release a new squash variety touted for its sweetness and buttery taste.

The Hall, N.Y.-based seed supplier plans to introduce the Butterkin winter squash variety this fall.

SeedWay is promoting the variety as a new type of squash that possesses a favorable blend of sweet and buttery flavors, according to a news release.

The variety’s flavors should find use in soups, pastas, pies and salads and its creamy and smooth texture make it versatile for baking, roasting and steaming, according to the release.

As the exclusive U.S. and Canada marketer and seller of the variety, SeedWay plans to distribute it to the U.S. Northeast with supplies expected to last through November, according to the release.

SeedWaySeedWay is marketing Butterkin as a premium variety and plans to support it in stores through Price Look-Up stickers, point-of-sale signs, public relations programs and social media support, according to the release.

Measuring 6-7.5 inches in diameter and weighing 2-4 pounds, Butterkin was developed through hybrid seeds in New Zealand.

Butterkin was also recently assigned the PLU number 3441 and more information about the variety is at www.butterkinsquash.com.
