The National Grocers Association Annouced its 2014 recipients for the Champion of Independent Grocers Award. U. S. Senators Roy Blunt from Missouri, John Boozman from Arkansas, and Mitch McConnell from Kentucky each received the award for their dedication to advancing pro-growth policies, and demonstrated support of the independent supermarket industry, according to a news release.

“Together, independent, community-focused retailers and wholesalers are a vibrant industry player in America’s economy, and we applaud Senators Blunt, Boozman and McConnell for their work,” Peter J. Larkin, president and CEO of NGA, said in a news release.

The National Grocers Association, Arlington, Va., represents independently-owned retail and wholesale grocers nationwide. Awards were presented to each lawmaker by their NGA member constituents during the NGA government relations committee’s fall meeting.
