Southern Specialties Inc. is expanding its artichoke program by marketing the commodity in its Southern Selects labeled packaging.
The Pompano Beach, Fla.-based specialty produce grower-shipper and importer is selling its Regal artichokes — so named because of its royal purple highlights on its leaves which point to its sweet flavor — in six-count modified atmosphere bags that come 10 bags per case.
Charlie Eagle, Southern Specialties’ vice president of business development, said the company introduced the Peru artichokes last year. He said it plans to expand its Regal program during the coming years.
Eagle said the medium-sized artichokes cook quickly and fit well on dinner plates as an entrée accompaniment.
The Southern Selects packaging features the company’s new design that includes English and French wording, preparation instructions and nutritional information.
In October, Southern Specialties redesigned its signature Southern Selects-branded bagged specialty vegetables line.
Southern Specialties grows, imports and ships specialty produce such as green beans, baby vegetables, asparagus, berries and specialty peppers, specialty tomatoes and specialty lettuce from the U.S., Canada, Central America, and South America.
