Grower-shipper Southern Specialties is expanding its presence in New England through a new marketing agreement.
Pompano Beach, Fla.-based Southern has inked a deal with industry veteran Bob McGowan and his new company, Northeast Produce Sales, said Daryl Johnston, Southern’s vice president of sales.
McGowan, who also serves as president of the Burlingon, Mass.-based New England Produce Council, will serve as Southern’s representative for specific New England accounts, Johnston said.
McGowan, who most recently worked for Foxboro, Mass.-based Advantage Sales and Marketing, is scheduled to start Feb. 1.
Johnston and McGowan have worked together extensively throughout their careers, Johnston said. McGowan’s customer-oriented approach to the industry will be a boon to Southern’s growing presence in the Northeast, Johnston said.
“He’s knowledgeable, well-respected in the industry and one of the most ethical and honest people I’ve ever met,” he said. “And he’s a joy to work with.”
Before joining Advantage Sales and Marketing, McGowan was vice president of produce for Waltham, Mass.-based Eastern Sales & Marketing/New England.
