The challenges and potential of local food for retailers and foodservice operators will be explored in a June 12 United Fresh Produce Association expo session in Chicago.

Called “Beyond the Buzz: Exploring the Opportunities and Challenges of Local,” the session’s panel of speakers includes Long Island City, N.Y.-based FreshDirect co-founder David McInerney, Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans food safety manager Bill Pool and Monterey, Calif.-based Pro*Act supply chain manager Kathleen Phillips, according to a news release from United Fresh.

The panel presentation is slated for Thursday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Central, according to the release.

The session will consider the complexities of buying, selling and marketing local produce for both retailers and foodservice players, Jeff Oberman, vice president of trade relations for United Fresh, said in the release.
