Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Market customers have raised nearly $600,000 for Feeding America through a promotion tied with the release of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

The checkout donation promotion also is tied to Hunger Action Month, dedicated to raising public awareness of hunger in the U.S. Sprouts stores also are selling a limited supply of plush toy “foodimals” tied to movie’s release, with 25% of the retail price pledged to Feeding America.

Sprouts is the latest to announce a partnership with the Sony Pictures Animation movie. Produce marketers also promoting Hunger Action Month tied to the movie include:

  • Cal-Organic Farms;
  • Duda Farm Fresh Foods;
  • Grimmway Farms
  • National Watermelon Promotion Board.
