Stemilt Growers has started a blog, The Stem, that offers consumers recipes, tips and farming information about the company’s apples, pears, cherries and summer fruits.
Brianna Shales, communications manager at Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt, is the main author for the blog launched April 9. Tate Mathison and Lorie Hopcus also write for it.
Mathison, a salesman and grower, will write on farming and seasonal developments at the orchards. His grandfather, Tom Mathison, founded Stemilt in 1964.
Hopcus, who developed many of the fruit recipes on Stemilt’s website, will offer her kitchen ideas.
She also writes a separate food blog, A Savory Nest.
The Stemilt blog spent months in the planning stages, Shales said in a news release.
“The idea behind The Stem is to share our passion and knowledge for the fruits we grow,” she said. Content will change as fruits move in and out of season, Shales added.
Initially, a new post is planned for each week. Readers can subscribe to The Stem by clicking a button on the home page and filling out a form to get the weekly update via e-mail.
