Stemilt Growers is packing premium late-season golden delicious apples under a new seal.

Select cell-pack cartons of late goldens will feature a “Heritage Gold” seal for a limited time, according to a news release from Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt.

The seal will be added to Stemilt 50th anniversary retro cartons, which are being used for other Stemilt products in 2014. The golden delicious was the favorite variety of Tom Mathison, Stemilt’s late founder.

“Our best golden delicious apples have been reserved for this special item, which adds to our 50th year anniversary celebration and honors Tom’s great legacy,” Roger Pepperl, Stemilt’s marketing director, said in the release. “Goldens were Tom’s favorite apple, and a variety he put lots of time and energy into bringing to market. Flavor was always his focus, and the apples that will be packed with the Heritage Gold seal are the ones Tom would have been proud of.”

Apples in the Heritage Gold packs will be compartmentalized in padded cells individually to preserve quality. Packs feature four sizes: 96,80,68 and 60.

“Goldens are a delicate variety and the soft cell pack is designed to protect each apple during transport,” Pepperl said. “We’ve reserved the best fruit — premium goldens with perfect finish and great flavors — in ideal sizes for this limited-time-only pack.”
