About 65% of Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt’s apricots will be organic, according to a company news release. Stemilt is the largest Washington apricot grower-shipper.

The company markets its organic apricots, known for their complex flavors, under the Artisan Organics label.

“The natural farming techniques used in organic production brings orchards into balance from a horticultural standpoint,” Roger Pepperl, Stemilt’s marketing director, said in the release. “This combines with the ideal climate in central Washington to produce apricots with vibrant hues and dessert flavors that have the right sugar-to-acid ratio.”

Stemilt expects to harvest almost 200,000 cartons of apricots this year. Peak volumes should begin shipping about July 10.

New this year in the company’s organic apricot program is a resealable, random-weight pouch bag.
