Stop & Shop Gives Back

Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC, Quincy, Mass., donated a total of more than $22 million during 2011 with the help of their customers.

“Stop & Shop is thankful to have customers, associates and partners who care about making a difference in the communities we serve,” Mark McGowan, president of Stop & Shop New England Division, said in a news release.

Of those donations, $10 million went to fight hunger. The company joined with its customers to donate food items and funds to local and regional food banks, and delivered 20,000 turkeys to fifteen local organizations for holiday meals.

Stop & Shop also donated $12 million to community organizations throughout the Northeast through associate, company and customer donations.

Causes included United Way, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and help to local schools as a result of the company’s A+ Rewards program,

“Stop & Shop believes in a philosophy of giving back locally,” Don Sussman, president of Stop & Shop New York Metro Division, said in the release.
