Table grapes grower-shipper Sundale Vineyards has begun construction of a 1.13 megawatt solar photovoltaic system in partnership with Cenergy Power.
The system is being built on more than four acres south of Sundale’s cold storage and packing facilities in Tulare, Calif.
It will power the cold storage, offsetting 91% of the electric bill there.
The solar technology is expected to produce almost 1.7 million kilowatt hour annually, with power savings to equal the project’s cost within four years.
The project reflects Sundale Vineyards’ commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, owner Todd Kinosian said in a news release. Over 25 years, it is forecast to save $5.7 million in electricity and equal the effect of removing 30,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Cenergy Power is a solar integrator with offices in Merced and Carlsbad, Calif.
