Sunkist celebrates Year of the Snake

Sunkist GrowersCourtesy Sunkist GrowersHoliday bows, flowers, coins in a traditional red envelope — and navel oranges perched on a snake — appear on Sunkist Growers packaging aimed at the Chinese New Year market.

Sales of the promotional packaging from Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Sunkist have exceeded 215,000 10-pound cartons in the U.S. and Canada, according to a news release. Additional orders have been made in Hong Kong.

It’s also available in a poly bag.

The holiday is Feb. 10. Peak months for navels are January, February and March.

“Symbolizing happiness and prosperity, oranges are an important part of the Chinese New Year celebration,” Sunkist director of packaging Dean Troxell said in the release.
