Sunkist partners with Florida citrus shipper

Expanding its supply eastward, Sunkist Growers Inc. is partnering with an Indian River citrus grower-shipper.

This fall, Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Sunkist plans to market citrus grown by Greene River Marketing Inc., Vero Beach, Fla., under the Sunkist label.

Combined, those companies pack about 3 million cartons a year, according to a news release.

Sunkist and Greene River plan to market the Sunkist-branded Florida citrus, the majority of it through Greene River.

Greene River’s grapefruit remains central to the deal. providing Sunkist with a consistent supply of fruit throughout the year, according to the release.

“We are excited about the expansion of our grapefruit program to Florida,” Kevin Fiori, Sunkist’s vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release. “In addition to our growers’ California and Arizona programs, we feel fortunate to have such high-quality associations with Lone Star Produce in Texas and now Greene River Marketing in Florida.”

The companies will pack Florida No. 1 grapefruit under the Sunkist label and other varieties and grades through the SK Choice or Pure Gold brands, according to the release.

“We are looking forward to this association,” Pat Rodgers, Greene River’s president, said in the release. “Both organizations bring great strengths to each other and I see tremendous potential in both the domestic and export markets.”
