Sunriver Sales, Visalia, Calif., will handle citrus marketing for Sunburst Packing Co., Porterville, this season under an agreement finalized Sept. 13.
Sunburst Packing Co., which last season reopened the idled former Nash de Camp, Goodell Packing and Booth Ranches facility, did in-house sales during the 2012-13 season, said Shann Blue, vice president.
When the packer that Sunriver Sales had worked with joined Sunkist Growers late last season, a marketing opportunity opened, he said.
“They are a very well-respected marketing company. They market multiple commodities, citrus being one,” he said.
Blue has known Steve White and Norm Evans of Sunriver Sales for several years.
“There’s a longstanding relationship here, so that’s another reason why it’s a nice fit,” Blue said.
In addition, the agreement will allow Sunburst Packing to expand its market presence because of Sunriver’s contacts, he said.
This season, Sunburst will offer citrus products similar to last year, which included navel and valencia oranges, lemons, cara cara navels and tangerines.
Sunburst Packing packs under the Honeysuckle label for No. 1s and Violet’s Choice for No. 2s.
Blue said he expects the navel season to start the second week of October, with shipments beginning the third week, based on current growing conditions.
