Suntreat Packing & Shipping Co. is now shipping its Gold Nugget specialty mandarins.
Lindsay, Calif.-based Suntreat began harvesting Gold Nuggets the week of April 1 and plans to ship them through May, according to a company news release.
The Gold Nugget season follows the season of the Sumo Citrus, another mandarin in Suntreat’s Reserve Citrus line.
“If Sumo Citrus is the king of the specialty mandarin category, then Gold Nuggets is the queen,” Al Imbimbo, Suntreat’s vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release. “The Suntreat Reserve varieties are only harvested at the peak of maturity, just the way the citrus growers themselves enjoy them.”
Gold Nuggets are medium-sized seedless mandarins grown in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California and noted for their bright orange color and aromatic, bumpy and easy-to-peel skin.
