Dan Symms, an executive at Caldwell, Idaho-based fruit grower-shipper Symms Fruit Ranch, died Oct. 7 of cancer. He was 52.

In more than 30 years at his family’s company, which ships apples and other fruits and onions, Symms worked in many different positions. Most recently, he headed Symms Fruit’s sales department.

In addition to working at Symms Fruit, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, Symms had leadership positions on the Idaho Apple Commission, the Idaho Cherry Commission, the Idaho Horticulture Society and the Idaho-Oregon Fruit and Vegetable Association.

Symms is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, John; two daughters, Sally Symms and Lois Salinas; his parents, Frances and Steve; and three sisters.

Memorials can be made to the Idaho Freedom Foundation or Grace Lutheran Church.
