Possible E. coli contamination spurred Taylor Farms to voluntarily recall an unknown quantity of organic baby spinach packaged under several brand names, including Wal-Mart’s Marketside Organic and The Kroger Co.’s Simple Truth Organic brand.
Neither the notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration website nor a statement on the Salinas, Calif., company’s Web page indicated the source of the potential contamination or how it was discovered.
No illnesses have been reported, according to the notices. The company set up a hot line for consumers at 855-293-9811.
The organic baby spinach has use-by dates of Feb. 24 and was distributed in at least 35 states, according to the recall notice.
Brands included in the recall are Marketside Organic, Simple Truth Organic, Central Market Organics, Full Circle Organic and Taylor Farms Organic. Depending on the brand, the recalled product is packaged in 5-ounce or 16-ounce trays.
In December, Taylor Farms recalled heaerts of romaine because of possible listeria contamination found during a random sample by the FDA.
