Upgrades to the Xpert C400 X-ray system from Thermo Fisher Scientific are designed to increase line speed for packers.
The upgrades include twice the X-ray power of the original model, compact sanitary drum motors and shorter line configurations, company officials said in a news release from their Minneapolis headquarters.
The Xpert C400 detects metal, glass, dense plastics and other contaminants.
Bob Ries, lead product manager, said in the release some retailers’ food safety initiatives now require that products be inspected by X-ray.
Improvements to the drum motor simplify sanitization because all moving parts are now enclosed.
The overall footprint is smaller, too, because the motor is now part of the conveyor framework. Technicians can service the system via built-in remote technology, which reduces downtime, the release said.
