This is too funny....The FDA refused to put a ban on product for fear that the insurance companies would be dinged....Instead, they issued a "warning" that all but killed the tomato business... BUT, the people who lost their butts were the repackers who had to dump thousands of packages, and got no compensation..., not the domestic growers.....Also, as I recall, it was the florida guys who blamed everyone else in the world for the problem, from moment one.....The REPACKERS ought to be suing the FDA....the growers shouldn't get a nickel...they already get enough welfare from the government...

The repackers use the growers as their "welfare" system. When the repackers dumped the tomatoes, they didn't pay the growers. Buy a load at one price, market goes down, cut the invoice.

Jack, you clearly do not know much about the agriculture industry. Tell me, exactly what welfare do tomato growers receive from the government? Tomatoes are not subsidized like certain grains and sugar. Tomato growers assume ALL the risk and ALL the expense.
