The 40 cyclists participating in the inaugural Tour de Fresh bike ride are nearing the homestretch of their fund-raising efforts, having collected more than $100,000.

Their goal is to raise $120,000 to buy and donate 40 salad bars to school districts nationwide as part of the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program, according to a news release.

Each rider has committed to raise $3,000 in donations to fund a salad bar for a school of his or her choice.

The 40 riders will begin their 270-mile trek Oct. 13 in Monterey, Calif. Four days later, they’ll finish at the Anaheim Convention Center just before the start of the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit.
