Turbana Corp. is launching a tropicals line.
The Coral Gables, Fla.-based Turbana is tapping into the tropical arena to help retailers enter Hispanic markets, according to a news release.
The new line includes 11 tropicals items, including yucca, chayote, yellow yams, malanga, coco and aloe vera.
“It’s a natural extension of our product line,” Marion Tabard, Turbana’s marketing director, said in the release.
“We want to make the buying and logistical process for our retailers as efficient as possible,” she said in the release. “Thus, we’re now offering the opportunity to buy our tropicals and have them delivered with the bananas, which can translate into a cost saving.”
By offering the niche line of produce, retailers can serve “a very specific, very substantial consumer market,” Tabard said in the release.
Specialty market shoppers are knowledgeable about tropicals and when retailers offer a versatile line, they’re inviting a new type of consumer, accordig to the release.
The U.S. marketing arm of the Uniban SA cooperative, Colombia’s biggest exporter of bananas and plantains, Turbana says it is the fourth-largest banana importer. Turbana is also the leading importer of plantains and Fair Trade certified bananas, according to the release, and is increasing imports of Fyffes gold pineapples.
Dublin, Ireland-based Fyffes is a Turbana owner.
