Turbana Corp. invites consumers to nominate and vote for their favorite charities with a Facebook contest that is the latest effort under the company’s Growing Smiles, Sharing Goodness project.

“Win 25K for Your Cause” runs through Aug. 12 at http://tinyurl.com/turbana25k and does not require a contribution to participate, according to a news release. The cause that earns the most votes in the Facebook contest will receive $25,000.

More than 60 charities are already in the running, ranging from World Bicycle Relief, which provides bikes to disaster victims, to Pollination Planet, which works to protect the food supply by helping people maintain pollinators’ habitats, to Operation Freedom Paws, which helps veterans with disabilities.

The contest is part of Turbana’s commitment to social responsibility and is being handled by its foundation, Fundauniban, which has already given more than $230 million to community-based charities around the world.

“Turbana aims to produce a snowball effect by using the company’s own enthusiasm and passion for community involvement to inspire individuals to participate in giving back to their communities across the nation,” according to the news release.

Established in 1970, Turbana Corp. is a Fair Trade Certified banana importer and gives a portion of every purchase to its foundation to assist community charities.
