It’s part of a larger tropicals program Coral Gables, Fla.-based Turbana plans to present at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit Oct. 18-20 in New Orleans. The company is exhibiting at booth 4139.

“The ethnic market in the U.S. is a significant one, one whose diet is dependent on tropicals, and we want to help our retail partners turn their stores into a destination for this quickly growing market,” Ricardo Echeverri, vice president of tropicals, said in a news release.

On some tropicals Coral Gables, Fla.-based Turbana will offer quick-response codes that link to recipes. Information on holidays for target consumers will also be offered to retailers.

At PMA Fresh Summit, Turbana plans iPad demonstrations of the new app. A chef will serve recipes with yucca and chayote. Turbana’s tropical line also includes eddoes, batata, malanga varieties, calabaza, yellow yam and dry coconut.

Turbana cites Nielsen Perishables statistics pointing to U.S. population increases of 47.3% and 51% respectively among Hispanics and Asians from 2000 to 2012 as reason to expect strong demand for tropicals.
